A DAY WITH DOODLES - 1964 - 1965 - DVD

In 1964 A Day with Doodles premiered. This was a series of six-minute shorts made available to syndication and sold as alternative fare to cartoons for locally hosted kiddie television programs. Each segment is presented from the child’s point of view with Doodles playing every character in every skit. There was no dialog except for the narration, which was also done by Doodles Weaver. Each episode featured Weaver in a first-person plural adventure (e.g., "Today we are a movie actor"), portraying himself and, behind false mustaches and costume hats, all the other characters in slapstick comedy situations with a voice over narration and minimal sets. The ending credits would invariably list "Doodles... Doodles Weaver" and "Everybody Else... Doodles Weaver."

A Day With Doodles lasted only one season and for those of us who grew up in that period, we remember how funny this show was.

Winstead "Doodles" Weaver came from a very famous entertainment industry family - brother of Sylvester 'Pat' Weaver, NBC exec who created the 'Today' and 'Tonight' shows and uncle of film actress Sigourney Weaver.

Depressed over his poor health, Doodles took his own life on January 12, 1983.
