JANE EYRE - 1934 - VIRGINIA BRUCE - DVD
Ladies and lovers of romance, the classic Charlotte Bronte novel is spread out before you in dramatic fashion by the prolific director Christy Cabanne. Jane is a poor orphan who endures a terrible orphanage childhood and grows into a beautiful lady who becomes a governess caring for a young girl in the home of the little girl's wealthy bachelor uncle. Jane falls in love with the master of the house, and eventually they plan to wed. Ahhh, but grab the tissues, all is not as bliss as it might appear. For the tough guys and seekers of adventure, know that there are screams of horror every evening from the part of the house that no one must venture into. On the day she arrives at the mansion one of the servants says, "Seeing as you've been so nice to me, may I suggest that you keep your door locked at night!" What deep dark secret is master Edward hiding from Jane . . . what do the terrifying nightly screams in the darkness portend for the loving couple? Few romances have no obstacles, but fewer still are beset with the disasters that will face Edward and Jane . . . . Jane Eyre. If you are a dedicated fan of the written novel, be forewarned that this telling veers from the written page quite a bit, so don't think about comparing lines in the book with lines in the movie, just relax and enjoy it as a different variation on a theme. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show!
